Who will my student be paired with for virtual tutoring? All of our hand-picked tutors are specially trained for a variety of learning environments, including virtual tutoring. We pair students with a tutor in their subject area who we believe will be the best fit for their learning style, personality, and academic history. Tutors use a combination of analyzing students’ past academic performance and discussing strengths, weaknesses, and goals with both you and your student. As the tutor and student continue to meet, tutors are able to communicate and adapt to the student’s individual needs and learning styles, even across a digital platform.

How does Smart Kids Tutor determine what my student needs work on?We identify what your student needs to work on in a few ways. First, we analyze their past assignments and grades, which includes looking over tests and determining the style of questions that they missed. Next, we ask the student. Typically students have an idea of what makes sense and what doesn't, and we use that to gauge how comfortable they are in the class as a whole. And we dive right in to assignments and studying! The best way to determine what students need to work on is to observe how they learn and study. This all happens during the first tutoring session, and the more time students and tutors spend together the more attuned we become to their needs.

My student has trouble focusing. Will virtual tutoring work for them?At Smart Kids Tutor, we know that every student is unique. For some students, virtual tutoring is an easy solution to classroom struggles, but for others it can be more challenging to stay focused on the screen. In virtual tutoring sessions, tutors encourage students to participate in interactive academic games and activities to stimulate their mind, work through difficult content, and keep them engaged. To minimize distractions, we ask that during tutoring sessions the only technology students have access to is the device they are actively using for tutoring. This helps students focus on the tasks at hand, and helps tutors maintain their undivided attention.
-
Is there a cost difference between virtual and in-person tutoring?Nope! Tutoring sessions are priced the same for both virtual and in-person tutoring. The cost of the session varies based only on the level of the class and the student’s grade level.
